What Is Onsite SEO?
SEO stands for "Search Engine Optimization" and it consist of various techniques that are used to make a website stand out from its competition when listed in search results. The internet is growing at such a rate that it is almost impossible for a website to attract all the visitors it wants without receiving a great deal of traffic from sites like Bing, Yahoo, or Google.
In order to accomplish that, a website needs a strategic SEO game plan. There are two essential parts to this concept, which are what we refer to as onsite SEO and offsite SEO. In this article, we will only discuss onsite SEO.
Onsite Search Engine Optimization Tips
Tip #1 - Try and select your URL based on your most important keyword, and not your businesses name. In other words, if your business name is Jones Real Estate and you are located in Miami, FL, do NOT select jonesrealestate.com as your URL.
Instead, try and get something like miamirealestate.com. The reason for this is that the search engines rank sites higher if the URL closely matches the search terms a person is using and your site will receive much more traffic just because of its name.
Tip #2 - Make sure that your site is setup so that the search engines can easily index it. If you are not sure what this means, you can read over Google's recommendations that will tell you what to do, and more importantly, what not to do. If your site is difficult to index, the search engines will not know what it is about, and they will not rank you well, thus ensuring poor traffic.
Tip #3 - Make sure your website does not contain too many errors. Once again, if you are not sure what this means, you can use Google's tools which are free to check your site after you have it built. It will tell you if you have broken links or pages that it cannot read.
Tip #4 - If you want your website to be successful, you are going to need to update it regularly with unique content. The main word in the last sentence was "unique", which means you cannot just copy and paste somebody else's work onto your site and call it your own. Instead, you need to write it yourself. If you are not a good writer, you can hire writers very inexpensively to write for you.
The tips discussed above are just a few of the concepts that make up onsite SEO. There are quite a few more, and if you want your website to become a real money maker, you will need to not only learn them all, but also implement each and every one of them.
